Privacy Policy

BrassTacks ("we", "us") runs mybrasstacks.com, a research tool that finds business opportunities in problems people describe publicly. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how to ask us to delete it.

What we collect

From you, directly. If you email us or join our waitlist, we keep your email address and anything you choose to tell us. Our web server keeps standard logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, time) for security and troubleshooting.

Public content from other platforms. We collect publicly available posts from platforms such as X, Threads, Bluesky and Hacker News, through their official APIs and under their developer terms. We search by keyword for posts about business problems, for example people asking whether a tool exists or looking for an alternative to one. For each post we store:

• the post's ID, link and timestamp
• the minimum text needed to analyze it
• the structured signal we extract from it (the problem described, who has it, any workaround mentioned)

We don't collect private messages, follower lists or non-public content, and we don't build profiles of individual people.

How we use it

• We use AI language models to classify posts and decide whether each one describes a real business problem.
• We publish only our own written analysis of an opportunity, with a link back to the original public post where relevant.
• We never republish, sell or share raw posts or datasets.
• We never use content collected from other platforms to train or fine-tune AI models.
• We don't analyze or infer sensitive characteristics such as health, politics or religion, and we don't track or monitor individuals.
• We use your email only to send you what you signed up for and to reply to you.

Who processes data for us

We use a small number of service providers to run BrassTacks: a cloud hosting provider for our servers and database, AI model providers (accessed through OpenRouter) to classify and analyze content, and an email provider to send and receive mail. They process data only to provide those services to us.

How long we keep it

We keep public content only as long as we need it for research. When a post is deleted or made private on its original platform, we remove our stored copy of its text as the platform's terms require, and we keep only a record that it existed and was removed. We keep your email until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Server logs are kept for up to 90 days.

Deleting your data

You can ask us to delete any data we hold about you, including your email address or content you posted publicly that we collected. Email hi@mybrasstacks.com with the subject "Data deletion request", and include your email address or the platform and username the content was posted under. We'll confirm and complete the deletion within 30 days.

You can also unsubscribe from any email we send using the link in that email.

Cookies

This site doesn't use tracking or advertising cookies. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the fonts load.

Children

BrassTacks is not intended for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll also notify people on our email list.
